Islamabad: At least 35 government websites in Pakistan were attacked Tuesday by a group calling itself the "Army of Cyber India," said a report by the media.

The government took steps to secure web sites hacked and most of them were restored by the afternoon, an official spokesman quoted by the online news agency.

Among the sites that were attacked was that of the National Accountability (NAB).

A message sent by the hackers - who claimed to have had access to the server hosting the websites of the government - read: "Hacked by Cyber Indian Army."

He was accompanied by a photograph of U.S. soldiers raising a flag on the Japanese island of Iwo Jima during World War II, but the flag of the United States became digitally on the national flag of India.
